We did it!!
Here are a few pictures of the group on Mt. St. Helens. There are a ton of stories to tell, a lot of hardships that were overcome, one broken arm, and a lot of people who are asking when we’re planning next year’s trip!

Lately I’ve been trying to be more intentional about teaching the kids to listen to the still small voice of God. So hard to do when there is just NOISE everywhere around you.

Last night we had our Worship and Prayer service at TRC. Cheyenne was with me and I used the night as a teaching on corporate worship. We worship a lot in our house and in the car but I love when she can stand next to me and experience amazing corporate worship.

Pastor Jeff took an offering at the end for our mission in Mexico that has been affected by the swine flu outbreak. I sat down to write my check but decided to let Cheyenne in on the offering portion of worship. I asked Cheyenne to pray and ask Jesus how much we were supposed to give. (Yes, truthfully I was kind of freaking out. What if she said $10,000? Would I say, “No Sweetie, you didn’t hear Jesus!?”) I told her again that Jesus would tell her how much and then I’d write the check. She sat there praying for at least two minutes. I told her it’s ok, just tell me what came to you…she looked at me and said the same amount that God spoke to me!

It was awesome; I told her “Yes, you heard Jesus! That’s how much we’re supposed to give!” and she was beaming! She came home and told me, “Mommy, I think this was my best day EVER!”

A lesson learned

A couple of months ago my son Jonathan lost his beloved stuffed Husky, Max. He looked everywhere for it and he kept saying he left it in my bedroom. Well, that could definitely mean it’s lost forever in the piles of stuff. (Update: after 5 hours in there on Monday, the only thing on the floors in my bedroom is furniture!! Thanks to Kathryn Tongg who leads an organizing Reach Team!!)

About 3 weeks into it he was still so upset which is a little unusual because he has so many and it seems like he has a new favorite every week. So finally the light went on and I took Jonathan into his room and told him to pray and ask Jesus where Max was. I told him very matter of factly, if you ask Him, He’ll answer you!!

So about 3 minutes later he comes out and said “Jesus said it’s under the bed”. GGRRR! That is exactly where Jonathan kept saying it was and I had searched under my bed 3 times. So, I went back in there and searched under and around my bed, tipped over piles of clothes and still no Max. I was so upset. I really wanted Jonathan to have his faith built to recognize Jesus’ voice.

So about a week later he was crying about Max again and I sent him back into his room to pray about it again. He came out with the same answer, “It’s under the bed, will you look under your bed again?” I kind of just left it alone and thought I’d use another situation to teach about Jesus’ voice.

Last Sunday Jonathan decided to re-arrange all the toys under his bed. He has one of those beds that are as high as a top bunk bed but the underneath is all open space, perfect for all the trucks and things boys collect. All of a sudden he comes out screaming and crying…He had found Max and he was under HIS bed. Through the tears all I could say is, “You heard Jesus!! He said He was under the bed! We just didn’t look under the right one!”

Wow….what a lesson for me. I let Jonathan assume that since he thought it was under MY bed that that’s what Jesus’ words meant. I’m wondering how many pre-conceived ideas I’ve had that have caused a delay in what Jesus has for me??

Dan and I were talking about all the different lessons that are in this situation, but I’m curious what lesson you see??
